Our Pick of Australian Tech Conferences for 2016

With so many great tech conferences every year, it’s hard to know which ones to attend! All facets of startup life is catered for these days; designers, web developers, innovators and startup founders alike. For those of you like us, who don’t have an unlimited travel budget and are trying to narrow down the field, I’m here to help. 2015 is pretty much done and dusted, so it’s probably time we start thinking about what events we’ll be attending next year already. I decided to ask around the BugHerd office to see what events some of our staff are looking forward to. Here’s the list that events that we’d would like to attend most.

Design / UX Conferences

UX Australia

  • 23-26 August, 2016
  • Location: Melbourne
  • Run by: UX Australia

UX Australia conference cover a wide range of UX-related topics – from practical techniques and case studies; to designing experiences for new contexts; to just getting inspired to do great work. They cover a range of technologies (or no technologies at all); and also discuss the perennial problem of getting better work done in large organisations.

Semi-Permanent

  • Run by: Semi-Permanent

One of the largest events of its type, Semi-Permanent is a creative platform spreading art and design inspiration. It consists of a conference and side events which include exhibitions, competitions, workshops and parties. It’s a week long celebration of all things design. Graphic Design, Film, Art, Illustration, Web Design, Photography, Visual Effects, Animation, Graffiti, Motion Graphics, Stop Motion; all these things and more.

Web Directions

  • Run by: John Allsopp / Web Directions

Australia’s digital design, product and engineering conference. Web Directions has for over a decade brought together leading developers, engineers, visual, IxD, UX and product designers, Art and Creative Directors, indeed everyone involved in producing web and digital products to learn from one another, and the World’s leading experts across this vast field.

Yow

YOW! Conference typically attract Developers that are serious about staying informed of the latest trends and using that knowledge to create innovative solutions. Take advantage of this melting pot of talent to discuss your own projects.

/dev/world

  • Run by: AUC (Apple User Consortium)

/dev/world is Australia’s longest running conference for OS X and iOS developers and designers.

LCA By the Bay / Linux Conf

  • 1-5 February, 2016
  • Location: Geelong, Australia
  • Run by: Linux Australia

Linux Conf is the largest linux and open source conference in the Asia-Pacific region. Run annually since 1999, it brings together the Australian, New Zealand and international community for standout presentations, demonstrations and relationship building. It is a deeply technical conference and pre-eminent practitioners in the field, both professionals and hobbyists, are expected to attend. Attracts between 500 to 800 delegates annually. Linux and Open Source conference.

Swarm Conference

Australia’s online community management conference connects established experts with new talent for two jam packed days of ideas, inspiration, insights, best practices, networking and collaboration. Swarm brings together professionals from many sectors and walks of life, with a focus on actionable insights.

above all human
