That special day of the year is finally here! April Fools! We love a good prank, but unfortunately we’re far too busy doing important work to make up an elaborate hoax (which you’d likely see through anyway), so we thought we’d take the lazy creative approach and help you to do it instead! Everyone knows to be on the look out for pranks this time of year, so the secret is not to go big, but go sneaky. This year, I’d suggest going the route of Chrome browser extensions – assuming you can get to your target’s computer for a couple of seconds (and that you don’t work for a stuffy corporate that frowns on tampering with co-workers computers…), here’s a couple of our favourites.
The Poltergeist extension takes control of Chrome tabs and randomly rearranges them to its heart’s content, whenever it pleases. A sure-fire way to make friends with OCD folks or those with a billion open tabs.
Con Air, The Rock, Ghost Rider… that other movie…. Who doesn’t love Nicholas Cage? Actually… you don’t need to answer that. Instead, install nCage on someone else’s machine and get the answer yourself! The nCage extension replaces all images on every web page to pictures of Nicolas Cage. This is more of a public service than a prank!
The extension designed for the 6 year old in all of us. The Cloud to Butt Plus extension replaces the text ‘the cloud’ with ‘my butt’, as well as ‘cloud’ with ‘butt’ in certain contexts. This one is great for anyone who works in the cloud. Could also be fun for meteorologists!
I’ve got to be honest. This may be crossing the line. I’m letting you know now, we cannot be held responsible if you go and install this on someone else’s machine. The Comic Sans Scare extension changes all web fonts into… Comic Sans. Your designer friends will either love it so much they’ll keep it… or they’ll stab you repeatedly with their wacom pen!
Face Off! That’s the other Nic Cage movie I was thinking of! But I digress! The FacedIn extension makes Facebook look like LinkedIn. It’s almost not a prank actually. It looks pretty good. You know, if you’re into that kind of thing. Your Facebook feed, now in business casual.
The Do It! Extension is extremely motivational. Once you install this, Shia LaBeouf is on hand to deliver the most intense motivational speech of all-time in your browser. There is absolutely no way you could have this installed and not immediately be 150% more effective at your job. Install this for someone and get them that much deserved payrise!
(On a serious note: we haven’t checked out these extensions in detail. As always, don’t install something you don’t trust, and don’t install something on someone else’s machine if you think it might get you or them in trouble!)
