Your questions answered about BugHerd as a website annotation tool.

BugHerd collects comments and markups on websites and other assets, complete with a screenshot, annotation and metadata. BugHerd turns all that data into tasks, ready for the team to action.

While other website annotation programs may require different applications to manage the website markup, BugHerd offers an all-in-one solution. The comments and data are sent directly into BugHerd's Task Board, a kanban-like environment where design and development teams can track and manage all the website feedback.

What’s a website annotation tool?
Unlike machine learning or ai model tools, a website annotation tool like BugHerd allows you and your team to leave contextual website feedback. Website comments are pinned directly to elements on the page and include data like operating systems and browser info to help remove ambiguity in communication between designers, developers/testers, project managers and clients.

BugHerd can be used for websites throughout the design, development, quality contol and user acceptance testing stages, as well as ongoing post-launch.
Do I need to install anything?
There’s two ways to set BugHerd up to get feedback on a website. You can embed a JavaScript snippet into the “head” of your website or you can install a browser extension to your preferred browser.
Where is the feedback and technical data sent?
BugHerd turns the markup and technical data provided into tasks on a kanban style Task Board. Using the Task Board, you can sort, assign and track tasks to completion.
What’s a project?
BugHerd uses the term project to describe a piece of work you need to do. You can define how big or small a project can be. So you can create a project for a complete website build, a landing page, or a new online learning course. You can set up a project for each client you work with, or for each stage of a project. BugHerd has no limits on the number of projects you can create providing you with flexibility to divide your work up as you prefer.
How do I take notes on a website?

BugHerd helps you stick notes to a website, so website development teams can see what needs changing or any bugs that need fixing.

Click the ‘+’ icon in the BugHerd sidebar to add a note. Then, simply point and click on the section of the website you want to give feedback on.

Leave your feedback ‘pinned’ to the website. BugHerd turns the feedback into a trackable task for the development team to solve.

What are the different types of annotations that your tool does?

BugHerd enables you to annotate images, PDFs, Figma designs and websites. In addition you can annotate the screenshot BugHerd captures when you markup a particular asset.

There are 5 main types of annotations you can make to screenshots in BugHerd:

  • Shape tool – Highlight a section of the screenshot with a square.
  • Arrow – Point to a specific element on the page with the arrow tool.
  • Free draw – Cross out sections, draw circles or get creative with the free draw tool.
  • Text – Add text to further clarify your feedback using the Text tool.
  • Selector – Click on a particular annotation with the selector tool to move it, resize it or even delete it.

You can also change the colour of your annotations before saving the marked up screenshot.

How do I invite others to a project?
You can invite people to join your project to provide feedback and to help resolve feedback. BugHerd has two main user levels, members and guests. Members are able to view the kanban style Task Board and all the bugs and feedback reported. Guests are only able to provide feedback and respond to comments about bugs or feedback they’ve reported.
Can I integrate BugHerd with existing tools?
BugHerd integrates natively with Slack, GitHub and Wordpress. Using Zapier or Integromat, you can integrate BugHerd with thousands of other tools, including Jira, Asana, Trello and many other project management tools.
